Linking to a similar post by group member, Kirsty Clark. I researched into our chosen genre over the set time period of 1994-1997, to see how the genre's popularity increased or decreased during this time and to also see what are the typical conventions involved with a thriller film. Kirsty, is doing the same research but for films ten years later, in our much recent times of 2000-2004.

This research was not particularly easy to come across due to the fact the films were made around 18 years ago, but I do believe even with little data, a theme within the conventions is clear. The typical conventions of psychological thrillers, that was evident within all of the above films were; the obvious murder, followed by revenge, paranoia and hidden/twisted messages. All of the above conventions link together in one way or another, which helps the genre along greatly. The film rating across all of these films were that of around 15, (rating R) showing that they are appropriate for older teenagers ideally. This research will help us plan our own psychological thriller if we are to carry on the route of that genre. From this research we will know ideas for conventions and themes, and an overall theme to what our target audience would expect.
