When planning the storyline to our final film, we will take into consideration all of the research we have previously found, and include all popular conventions of the genre. Our main task is to create the opening of a new film lasting approximately two minutes, including a title sequence. We have chosen a demographic of 16 to 25 years old. We will aim all of our work towards this age range and audience.
OUR INITIAL IDEA.
A young girl, Holly and her family move from England to Houston in Texas and then one night whilst the family are all watching television, a crazed man who has just escaped from the local mental asylum breaks into their house and slaughters Holly's family in front of her and leave her for dead.
The movie is set 10 years after the murders, so the audience will begin to find out the back story as the storyline continues. 10 years on, Holly discharges herself from a psychiatric ward and the audience follow her path into a new life. She has no memory of the incident as the doctors trialed a new drug on her, which wiped her past memory clean. As she begins her new life, she begins experiencing horrific flash backs. The audience will follow her journey of discovery and remembrance, but how will she handle the truth and the memories? Will it turn into a revenge plot or will she begin to loose her mind once again?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We chose this storyline idea, as it includes many typical conventions of a psychological thriller and contains ideas that we could experiment with.
However we decided not to use this idea in the end as we thought it was too similar to other films that had already been made and we wanted to steer away from typical conventions to stop it becoming predictable.
OUR CHOSEN IDEA
This idea follows two teenagers; the teenage girl has a very messed up lifestyle and turns to alcohol to try solve her problems. The teenage boy is more reserved, and always looks troubled by something. The audience later discovers later on that the girl is living two years in the past, and the boy is in the present; hence why the girls shots are all in the dark, whist the boy's are in the daylight. It is like this we find out, because the girl died those two years ago and her spirit is trapped here reliving that moment. We then find out the boy was the girl's boyfriend at the time of her decline and he has never fully recovered from her death and often makes visits to her graveside. The movie shows her decline in health and mental ability (through flashbacks and split screens) her addiction to alcohol, and the boys coping methods. The audience will be left with an enigma throughout most of the film as you do not find out the girl actually died until the end of the film. All the unanswered questions will be answered as the storyline progresses.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We chose this idea because it still remained within the psychological thriller genre to an extent, whilst not having the typical and predictable conventions of others. We believe that by creating more unique ideas and conventions; our film may be a bit more inspiring to watch and that it would appeal more to our audience of teenagers to 25 year olds.
