My Preliminary task required short footage showing someone walking through a door, across a room and having a short conversation with another person. Match on Action, Shot/reverse shot and the 180 degree rule (see picture) had to be included within.
We looked around school at this time to try find an appropiate room for our filming, as we had to make sure that it was available for all the times we would need it.

Match on Action: A technique that shows one action cutting from two different angles during one time, but linking the movements across both shots.
Shot/Reverse shot: A technique where one character is looking at another character (often off screen) and then a cut is made to show that second character looking back at the first. Even with the cut between the two, the viewer knows that they are both looking at each other.
180 Degree Rule: This rule is the basic guideline that states two characters in the same scene should always have the same left/right relationship with each other. When the angle is shot from the other side (of the imaginary axis) it is known as a reverse shot.

ATTEMPT ONE.
With our first attempt, we realised that we had problems with our sound quality when the camera was facing Kayleigh (the character in Orange) so we re-shot the scene, using better sound equipment

Evaluation.
Considering this was our first exercise we did have to some problems when it came to the editing software; and trying to get our individual clips to flow together. Our first attempt shows our experimentation with different transitions between the shots, and our use of cropping. However, with no sound in one shot, we realised this would not help the flow of the scene.
So on our second attempt, we were a bit more efficient when it came to using the software, and we were able to include brief match on action shots, as well as the other required elements. On our second attempt, we did have another slight problem with the sound, but not as major as our first attempt; this was beyond our control at the time and is something that we can improve on for our new video piece.
As our knowledge and understand of both using the cameras, and then finally editing our footage, we will be able to improve. Next time we will focus more on the above problems. This preliminary task has enabled us to develop our camera skills and camera techniques ready for planning our final piece.
